  • In 2019, and following several years of pregnancy loss prior, my partner and I suffered the loss of our son to stillbirth. I found it difficult to find any support through the “normal” channels. I sought counselling support from Alternatives Watford in 2020 around the start of the pandemic and was introduced to [my counsellor]. My sessions with [my counsellor] ended in May 2021.   • I started working with [my counsellor] at Alternatives in March 2020 after I experienced the stillbirth of my little girl. I was completely broken, inconsolable and struggling with many complex feelings. It took a long time, but with the support, I learnt to manage the grief. I suffered an early miscarriage in July 2020 which was a set back, but again, the support helped me to carry on. I got pregnant in November 2020 and am now due to give birth next week. It’s been an incredibly tough journey but without Alternatives, I honestly don’t know how I would have got through it in one piece. The mix of talking therapy, coupled with practical techniques have been invaluable, both when I was grieving hard, and then learning to manage the anxiety of pregnancy after loss. [My counsellor’s] experience of working with other clients who have been through a similar experience, means she is always able to reassure me that my difficult and sometimes confusing feelings are all ‘normal’ or to be expected. This reduces my feelings of loneliness. Alternatives have also supported my husband, alongside me, meaning we both have both had the individual support we need to get through this tough time.
